一、 课后复习、提前预习
放学回来后，让孩子把当天学过的内容复习一遍，会读会译会背。再和孩子一起把第二天要学的内容预习一遍—先看看课文中有没有不会的单词，把它（们）划出来，然后对照课本后面的单词表，在单词的下方记下词义，再跟着点读机多读两遍，练习一下发音。对于儿子基础差的情况，这样做能减轻他上课的压力，还培养他预习的习惯。复习预习的同步我教孩子学习26个英语字母（5个元音字母和21个辅音字母）。
二、 把学过的内容用在日常生活中
孩子学的内容很贴近生活，由于我是英语教师，就有这个优越条件，在日常生活中对话。比如说Where is your school bag? On the bed. Where’s my eraser? In the pencil box. 哪怕是一个单词的训练也行，锻炼孩子对单词的熟悉程度，比如说， 你自己穿trousers/sweater等等。这种学习方法比单纯看书的效果要好得多。
三、 和孩子一起做游戏
学习nose, hand, face, mouth等身体部位的单词的时候，我就和他玩指鼻子指眼的游戏，调动了孩子的积极性。孩子愿意在这种轻松愉快的环境下学习。
四、 坚持天天学习
除了复习预习的内容以外，教会孩子26个字母以后，坚持让孩子每天拼读5-10个单词，一是练习26个字母的认读， 一个是练习单词，温故而知新嘛。天天听英语，我买了两个光盘，小学生英语900句和英语童谣，在孩子睡觉之前放给孩子听，就当催眠曲，好几首歌曲在后来的课本中都学到。
